"Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is the 2008 album by Lee 'Scratch' Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry), who was a Jamaican record producer, composer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and the use of studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing tracks. From his Black Ark Studio in Kingston Jamaica, he worked with and produced a wide variety of artists, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, Susan Cadogan, The Congos, and Max Romeo. Later, he moved to Switzerland and reinvented himself as a performance and visual artist but continued to produce innovative music -- collaborations include The Beastie Boys, The Clash, Keith Richards, George Clinton, and Adrian Sherwood. Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is the second in a series of three albums he made with English musician and producer Steve Marshall a.k.a. John Saxon. It features guest appearances by none other than George Clinton and Keith Richards. The 2LP Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on translucent green colored vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve."

"Battle Of Armagideon is one of the essential albums by Lee 'Scratch' Perry & The Upsetters. Perry's technique as a mixer and producer will get to you in many ways. 'I'm A Madman' is the best-known album track, wherein Perry acknowledged his lunatic persona. The Spin Alternative Record Guide deemed the album Perry's best of the 1980s. Lee 'Scratch' Perry was a pioneer in dub music and worked together with artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Clash, and The Beastie Boys. Battle Of Armagideon is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on red colored vinyl."

Originally released in a very limited Jamaican pressing with no sleeve, it became better known after its reissue by Trojan Records as part of The Upsetter Collection. Rhythm Shower is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on orange colored vinyl. Since the original release contained no sleeve, this edition is housed in a custom made sleeve by Music On Vinyl in collaboration with Trojan Records."

"Cloak & Dagger is the 1973 studio album by Lee 'Scratch The Upsetter' Perry. In that year, as Perry entered a period of heavy dub output, he recorded Cloak And Dagger. This early dub outing is a testament to Perry's lo-fi mastery as he utilized his four-track soundcraft board, tape delays, phasers, reverb and any other ambient sounds he could get this hands on as an instrument rather than just to record instruments. Cloak & Dagger is available on black vinyl. The release is packed in a much sought after Rhino (UK) sleeve. 180 gram audiophile vinyl."

"Two seminal Trojan albums from the golden age of reggae. Annotated by Lee 'Scratch' Perry biographer, David Katz/ Lee 'Scratch' Perry is still actively touring. Released by Trojan Records at the height of the reggae explosion of late 1969, The Upsetter introduced the world at large to the work of musical genius Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Comprising nine compelling instrumental sides from the Upsetters, the set also features fine vocal offerings from Busty Brown and the Silvertones, disguised as the Muskyteers. The following year, Trojan released the popular follow-up, Scratch The Upsetter Again, which further demonstrated the producer's increasingly innovative approach to music making that was beginning to display elements of the developing dub sound. Annotated by Lee 'Scratch' Perry biographer, David Katz, the CD provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy and experience the early work of a man whose work significantly contributed to the transformation of the sound of Jamaican music."

"Lee Perry first came to prominence working with Coxsone Dodd's fabled Studio One. This is where Scratch earned the nickname with the wildly popular Jamaican hit record and dance craze 'Chicken Scratch.' After a fall out with Dodd, Perry moved on to a stint with Joe Gibb's Amalgamated. Again in a dispute over compensation Perry moved on to form his own label, Upsetter and established his house band, the Upsetters. By 1973 Perry had also established Black Ark, a recording studio of his own that functioned as an effective fertilizer throughout what was Jamaica's most innovative period for sounds and recording techniques. In that year, as Perry and Black Ark entered a period of heavy dub output, Scratch recorded Cloak And Dagger. This early dub outing is a testament to Perry's lo-fi mastery as he utilized his TEAC four-track, Soundcraft board, tape delays, phasers, reverb and any other ambient sounds he could get his hands on as an instrument rather than just to record instruments. Get On Down celebrates a piece of reggae history and one of Lee Perry's crowning achievements with this reissue of Cloak And Dagger, presented here as originally issued in Jamaica in 1973."

"A year after embarking on a career as an independent producer in 1968, Lee 'Scratch' Perry hit the big time when the mesmeric sax-led rock steady instrumental, 'Return Of Django' made number 5 in the UK charts. Soon after, Trojan released a hugely popular collection of the producer's most popular instrumental releases to date, suitably titled after the best-selling single. Perry's remained at the cutting edge of the reggae scene throughout the months that immediately followed, with tracks by the Upsetters (essentially the name given any set of musicians employed for his recording sessions) proving particularly popular among both Jamaican and British music fans. In response, Trojan issued a second Spaghetti Westered themed instrumental-based album comprising the enigmatic Jamaican's work that further demonstrated his increasingly bold and innovative approach to music making. Now, almost 50 years after the original release of these historically important long-players, they have been brought together to form this immensely fascinating and hugely enjoyable CD collection. Annotated by Lee 'Scratch' Perry biographer, David Katz, this is a must for all fans of both the producer and vintage reggae sounds."

2017 cardboard sleeve edition. Originally issued in 1973, Blackboard Jungle Dub is considered a milestone in the history of dub. Tracks include "African Skank" -- based on Junior Byles's "A Place Called Africa" -- and "Dreamland Skank", "Moving Skank", and "Kaya Skank" which are dub versions of the Wailers' "Dreamland", "Keep On Moving", and "Kaya". "On Blackboard Jungle Dub, Lee Perry and the Upsetters produce another fine example of their subversive brand of dub with a unique blend of murky rhythm tracks, warbling guitar effects and distant-sounding horns. . . . Living up to the 'Upsetter' moniker, Perry wreaks his inimitable brand of mayhem during 'Fever Grass Dub' with a half-baked MC intro, lion roars and air raid siren imitations; effects which blend in well with other eccentric features like the spastic trombone solo on 'BlackBoard Ver. 2' and reverb-heavy percussion on 'Cloak A Dagger.' Just standard technique for Perry really, and part of the sound which made his productions instantly recognizable amongst many '70s and '80s dub releases. Blackboard Jungle contains classic dub taken to the outer limits and is one of the highlights of the Lee Perry catalog." --Stephen Cook, AllMusic

2017 digipak edition of a landmark dub record from legendary reggae producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry, using a combination of established collaborators and new musicians (The Upsetters, Ricky and Bunny). Originally released in 1981. Also features: Johnny Lover, The Towerchanters, The Blue Bell, Val Bennett, Brad Osborne, Devion Iron, and The Black Arks. "... an assemblage of pulsating organs, distorted guitar scratches, and deep bass. Vocals come in the form of the standard dub production fragments ('Curly Dub') and occasional Rasta philosophizing ('Who You Gonna Run To,' 'When Jah Come'). The most striking moment is 'Tighten Up.' Here, an infectious tune with banal lyrics and fine groove is transformed through Perry's absurd production methods. Warped beyond belief (and anything resembling conventional logic), it's as if Perry placed the entire track underwater just to see what it sounded like, then sat back, satisfied with his creation. Only the saxophone escapes. The vocalists sound like alien versions of Alvin & the Chipmunks have landed on the island of Jamaica. Nothing else on Scratch & Company quite matches it. . . . fine music for those looking deeper into the producer's catalog." --Nathan Bush, AllMusic

2021 restock. "Few artists enjoy a legacy that involves a re-engineering of the very genre in which they work. Lee 'Scratch' Perry is such an artist. As a pioneer of dub reggae Perry viewed the mixing console as musical instrument in its own right. The influence of his revolutionary approach has been felt world-wide and into genres far beyond reggae. His 1976 effort, Super Ape, is considered a masterpiece of this or any genre. Working with The Upsetters at his Black Ark studio Perry created a sound with such a lasting appeal that The Rough Guide includes Super Ape as one of their 100 Essential Reggae releases. Comes with a 22" x 22" Super Ape poster."

"Placed within legendary reggae producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry's prolific discography, The Upsetters' Chapter 1 stands out as one of the eccentric genius's most interesting, adventurous works. Using a combination of established collaborators and new musicians, Perry creates a classic dub record that pulses with deep bass, echoing percussion and dissonant sound effects. Spiritual cuts ('When Jah Come') are balanced by grand dub productions ('Tighten Up'), creating a cohesive, infectious sound that rivals the Upsetter's finest material. After releasing Perry's landmark album Blackboard Jungle Dub, Get On Down is proud to present another masterpiece from reggae's supreme musical architect. Remastered from the original analog tapes, The Upsetters Chapter 1 features the highest quality audio transfer and is packaged in a paste-on mini-LP with slip case and clear plastic poly bag, with art based on the original LP picture sleeve."

"A classic album from the Upsetter himself, the incomparable Lee 'Scratch' Perry, receives the proper remastered release it deserves from the reissue masters at Get On Down. Previous releases of Blackboard Jungle Dub were either poor quality or only available in box-sets, but now the album is finally presented in high quality digital audio and packaged in a paste-on mini-LP jacket featuring the original album artwork. Widely considered the first full-length dub LP, Blackboard Jungle Dub pairs Perry with another Jamaican legend -- engineer King Tubby -- and embodies the Upsetter's loose, instinctive sonic approach, with instrumentals stripped down to the bare elements and then brilliantly reassembled as only he can do. Standouts include 'Dreamland Dub,' 'Dub From Africa' and 'Moving Forward.' Another superb reissue that underscores Get On Down's commitment to high quality releases."
